Dr. Hofmann Receives State and National Awards
At its annual meeting in Eugene
on November 6th, the Oregon Chapter of the American College
of Physicians awarded Dr. Hofmann two high honors. The
first was the Chapter's Laureate Award. Recognizing
Dr. Hofmann's civic, regional, statewide, and national
accomplishments, Dr. James Reuler told those attending that,
"the legacy which Charles E. Hofmann, MD, FACP, will leave
for the citizens, health professionals and students in the
State of Oregon will be long lasting, broad and deep. The
Oregon Chapter of ACP is honored to recognize Chuck with the
2009 Laureate Award for his devotion to, and modeling of,
the highest ideals of our profession." Dr. Hofmann was
also recognized as a Master of the American College of
Physicians. Masters comprise a small group of highly
distinguished physicians, selected from among Fellows, who
have achieved recognition in medicine by exhibiting
preeminence in practice or medical research, holding
positions of high honor, or making significant contributions
to medical science or the art of medicine.
Dr. Hofmann Appointed to Oregon
Health Policy Board
Governor Kulongoski has appointed Dr. Hofmann to sit on the
newly-formed Oregon Health Policy Board. The Board was
created by HB 2009, the major health care reform bill that
took center stage during the 2009 legislative session. The
bill was based largely on recommendations of the Oregon
Health Fund Board, of which Dr. Hofmann was a member.
The
nine-person Health Policy Board will oversee the development
and implementation of health care policy in
Oregon. The Board is tasked with
developing a plan for the Legislature by Dec. 31, 2010 that
will provide and fund access to affordable health care for
all Oregonians by 2015. Among other things, the Board is to
develop a health insurance exchange, establish evidence
based clinical standards and ensure that Oregon's health care
workforce is sufficient to meet demand. The Senate
unanimously confirmed Dr. Hofmann’s appointment on Oct. 1.
